The curriculum of the Undergraduate Program in Social Welfare Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia, implements a Practicum learning method. Practicum is a compulsory course within the curriculum, designed to ensure students acquire professional competencies through direct field learning activities with direct supervisor guidance.

The 2020 Curriculum introduces special courses, Practicum I (5th semester) and Practicum II (6th semester), where students apply knowledge, skills, and values of social work and social development at the Study Program’s partner institutions, including both governmental and non-governmental organizations. Through these practicum experiences, students can practice intervention stages from assessment, planning, program implementation, evaluation, and termination.

Each student is intensively guided by two (2) professionally qualified Practicum Supervisors: (i) a School Supervisor assigned by the Study Program, whose expertise aligns with the field, holding at least a master’s degree and professionally recognized practical experience; and (ii) a School Supervisor assigned by the Head of the Practicum Institution, whose field of practice aligns, holding at least a bachelor’s degree.

The 2020 Curriculum introduces a revised practicum course model, combining classroom and institutional/field learning. This model provides teaching and training to enhance students’ skills in applying various social intervention methods through several courses:

  1. Practicum in Individual and Family Intervention;
  2. Practicum in Group Intervention;
  3. Management of Humanitarian Service Organizations;
  4. Participatory Planning in Community Intervention; and
  5. Social Welfare Planning Practice.
