The Department of Social Welfare Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Indonesia, in collaboration with Korea-Indonesia Connection (KIC) and Chung Mong-Koo School of ASEAN Studies, successfully organized the Korea-Indonesia Youth Collaboration Program on Monday, July 28, 2025. This program was designed to bring together students from Indonesia and Korea in an intensive and collaborative dialogue forum, with the aim of building cross-cultural understanding while generating creative ideas to address various global issues.
Cross-Country, Cross-Perspective Meeting
The activity began at the FISIP UI Depok campus with an opening session introducing the program’s objectives, followed by an ice-breaking session to encourage interaction among participants. Students from both countries were divided into transnational groups, allowing them to directly engage in thematic discussions.
Topics discussed included climate change, food security, educational inequality, and sustainable development. Each group was asked to identify key problems, analyze their root causes, and formulate innovative solutions relevant to both countries.
“This kind of interaction broadened our perspective that social challenges in Indonesia and Korea share similarities, but the approaches to solutions can be very different,” said one of the participants.
From Discussion to Idea Presentation
After in-depth discussions, each group presented their ideas to other participants and facilitator representatives. This presentation session not only showcased the diversity of thought but also demonstrated the students’ ability to articulate and visualize their solutions clearly and systematically.
Participants utilized case studies, empirical data, and even policy advocacy strategies in their presentations. This reflects both the academic capabilities and social awareness expected from the future generation.
An Enjoyable Learning Experience
One of the most anticipated moments was the interactive dinner session held at the Bappenas Office, Jakarta. In a more relaxed atmosphere, participants could exchange personal stories, life experiences, and cultural perspectives that were not discussed in formal settings. This dinner served as a bridge to build personal relationships that strengthened bonds among students from different countries.
Role of Students from the Department of Social Welfare Science
The Department of Social Welfare Science, FISIP UI, is proud of the participation of three of its students in this program:
- Tarida Gitaputri Butar Butar
- Aisha Putri Safrianty
- Andini Eka Pratiwi
They actively participated in group discussions, contributing ideas relevant to the social welfare science perspective, and demonstrated leadership in formulating solutions. This participation not only provided international experience but also enriched their understanding of the differences and similarities in social challenges across various countries.
Building Bridges for the Future
This program serves as concrete evidence that cross-country and interdisciplinary collaboration can be a catalyst for finding common solutions to global issues. By involving students as key actors, this activity simultaneously instills a spirit of leadership, critical thinking skills, and cross-cultural communication abilities.
The Department of Social Welfare Science hopes that this kind of cooperation can continue in the future, not only with partners from Korea but also from various other countries, so that the vision of realizing inclusive and sustainable social welfare can be achieved.
